Finding a podcast that fits your lifestyle is akin to choosing a movie to watch when your options are endless, and many of us are familiar with the decision paralysis that sets in once we start scrolling through Netflix or Hulu. It can be even more challenging when you’re in search of a podcast to pair with cannabis, one that combines the perfect blend of entertainment, information, and subject matter expertise.
Now that 2020 has arrived, we’ve done some of the heavy lifting for you, and curated a list of five cannabis-friendly podcasts you’ll want to binge all year long. You don’t have to be high to enjoy these shows, we chose them based on their contributions to cannabis culture, as well as the voices that make each of them unique.
Great Moments in Weed History w/ Abdullah and Bean
Hosted by journalist and former Bong Appetit host Abdullah Saeed and “How to Smoke Pot (Properly): A Highbrow Guide to Getting High” author David Bienenstock, Great Moments in Weed History “delves deep into humanity’s 10,000+ year relationship with cannabis,” highlighting cultural heroes, historic moments, and the influence of THC throughout the centuries. Unlike many corporate-produced podcasts, GMIWH is independent, with its production funded by listeners via the popular Patreon platform.
Weed + Grub
Musician David Crosby is a famously prickly interview guest, so it’s a testament to the talents of hosts Mary Jane Gibson and Mike Glazer that he once agreed to guest star on an episode of Weed+Grub. Crosby isn’t the only one to take the mic for a cannabis-infused conversation, Weed+Grub is famous for showcasing guests from around the industry, including chefs, musicians, athletes, entrepreneurs, and others who have embraced the cannabis lifestyle. Come for the conversation, stay for the information, such as Chef Michael Magliano’s cannabis cooking tips.
Maria & Jane: Women in Cannabis Business
(Currently on hiatus) Some of the best podcasts eschew comedy and entertainment in favor of delivering thoughtful insights into the cannabis industry. Maria & Jane: Women in Cannabis Business does exactly that, with host Jacqueline Carly giving a voice to female entrepreneurs, CEO’s, and cannabis company founders. With its goal to educate and empower future business leaders, Maria & Jane is the show you’ll want to listen to with a keyboard or notebook within reach.
The Pot Cast
Host Heavy Dayze, in addition to having the best name in podcasting, has been delivering The Pot Cast at a steady clip since August 2016. The Pot Cast offers a global perspective on the cannabis industry, with interviews, insights, and stories from business leaders around the world to keep you entertained. Unlike some of the other shows on this list, The Pot Cast puts out lengthy episodes – two to three hours or longer – that you might not get through in one sitting. But it’s worth it.
Getting Doug with High
Comedian Doug Benson has been doing his thing for decades, and became an icon of cannabis culture with the 2007 documentary Super High Me. Since 2013, he’s been the host of Getting Doug with High, which is available in audio and video, the latter via YouTube. Benson is no stranger to these “Top Cannabis Podcasts” lists either, but the trailblazer is worth one more mention for putting out what many say is the best podcast to hear or watch while you’re stoned. As per Benson’s instructions, audience members and guests don’t get to start smoking until “4:20” on the clock.
